Eco 579

A community of interacting Organisms

Location | Red Hook Brooklyn, NY

Date | Spring 2022

An anthropocentric view dominates the built environment, placing human-made structures above nature. To Design a sustainable future, this mindset must shift. Housing should be seen as an ecosystem, fostering interaction among all organisms. Current architectural norms hinder this unity. A new typology is needed, like the hexagon, promoting communal living and nature integration. Eco 579 utilizes its hexagonal forms, to minimize winter winds and maximize solar heat. Vegetation is integrated into facades, inviting non-human communities. This housing typology fosters human-nature interaction, essential for a sustainable planetary ecosystem.
